The vision of the Transfiguration is a glimpse of what’s waiting for us at Easter.

Wouldn’t it be safer to simply love those who are our friends and acquaintances?

We are called to go beyond our own conversion and repentance.

The shepherd’s duty is to tend the flock, not to lord over them; to serve them, not to have them serve him.

Jesus says the only sign we need is his death and resurrection.

It is the time to see what weeds have grown up and need to be pruned from our lives.

Christ asks us to see Him in the suffering in various forms of weakness and vulnerability our own and others.

On this first Sunday of Lent, we ask Jesus, truly God and truly man, which of our beliefs and behaviors must change so that we can personally experience, and witness to others, today, the time of fulfillment he announced.

Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.

Jesus the Bridegroom came that we may have life and have it to the full.

These words of Jesus remind us, just one day after being marked on Ash Wednesday, of the paradox that the forty-day desert trek of Lent is cause for unparalleled hope.

We really want to return to God (Joel 2:12), to be more faithful to the Gospel.

God united human nature to himself.

Sometimes there is nothing else we need to say other than the words, “Come and See.”

Today two important questions are asked.

When we do good, act mercifully, love our Lord and neighbor, and obey God’s commandments, we are not only being made into more perfect human persons, but we actively begin to share in God’s very being.

Lord, make us mindful that our enemies are your children, too.
