Every preacher proclaims the truth of the Resurrection. Mary Magdalene is the patroness of the Order of Preachers because she was the first to herald in full the good news that Christ is risen. Like the friars of our Order, she was transformed by divine truth and the love of God. Her encounter with Jesus forever altered the trajectory of her life: she embraced his merciful word and responded with repentance.
True repentance begins in the heart and overflows in gratitude and love of neighbor, for authentic love is always self‑diffusive. Mary Magdalene exemplifies what we all are called to be: vulnerable before the Lord, receptive to his loving gaze, and then sent forth to share that love with the world. Having encountered the living Christ, she proclaimed that he is no longer dead but alive—and that we, united to him, rise from sin into newness of life in Christ Jesus, who died and rose for our sake.
Mary Magdalene’s courage and faith invite us to a full conversion of heart, mind, and will. It is not enough merely to receive the Lord’s mercy, goodness, and love; we must also channel that grace to others, especially those most in need.
