My Summer in Italy Br. Samuel Wharton, O.P. July 2026
I spent the summer in Bologna, Italy, at the Convento San Domenico where the main relics of St. Dominic are located.
I had a great experience getting to know the student brothers of their province and learn their language. I also traveled around Italy a decent amount, to Ravenna, Padua, Venice, Florence, and Rome, seeing a great number of beautiful Churches along the way.
Towards the end of the Summer, on August 4, Bologna celebrated the feast of St. Dominic. I was one of four brothers that carried St. Dominic’s relics out from the reliquary towards the altar in the Basilica, where they were venerated throughout the day. It was an incredibly powerful and prayerful experience.
Overall, it was an amazing summer, and I feel much more prepared for attending the Angelicum in the Spring!
